South Mountain Partnership Trails Workshop: Building Strong Community Connections
Registration is now closed for the South Mountain Partnership Trails Workshop: Building Strong Communities Connections. This one day workshop took place at Shippensburg University on November 20, 2018 and had over 110 attendees from across the region and across a diverse spectrum of non-profit, governmental, and business professionals.
The workshop was geared toward people who are involved in designing, building, and maintaining trails and/or bike lanes. One track was geared toward trail building and maintaining groups while the other was geared toward municipalities and government agencies. An optional mobile session took attendees out onto the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail.
Workshop sessions included:
– Designing trails for local needs
– How to work with PennDOT to get bike lanes funded, designed, and built
– How to engage and retain volunteers
– Building municipal and community support for trails
– And many others
Funding for this project came from the Chesapeake Bay Funders Network, Chesapeake Bay Trust, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, US Environmental Protection Agency, and the Chesapeake Bay Program. Thanks also to our event sponsors: Volvo Construction, the Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau, the PA Land Trust Association, and the Center for Land Use and Sustainability at Shippensburg University. Reception refreshments provided by Appalachian Brewing Company and Big Hill Cider.
