Arendtsville Borough

| Gateway Narrows Interpretive Project |

The Arendstville Borough, in Adams County, oversaw a project to develop and install interpretive panels and “South Mountain Fruit Belt” branding sign at the Arendstville Community Park. With support from the Adams County Department of Environmental Services and Boyer’s Nurseries, this project highlights the historical and cultural significance of the South Mountain landscape, including its influence in the French and Indian War, the role of its forested lands in supporting the iron and timber industries, its influence on the birth of the fruit industry, and its relevance as a land of plenty (a breadbasket) during the Civil War.
