Greene Township undertook a feasibility study for an approximately 14- mile trail that follows the Conococheague Creek to connect the city of Chambersburg to Caledonia State Park. The study allowed the township to: (1) engage interested stakeholders in a public process leading to the identification of a proposed trail corridor; (2) review the current conditions of the proposed trail corridor; (3) understand property ownership patterns and begin to discuss and address potential concerns by owners; (4) consider right-of-way issues; and (5) estimate project costs. With the completed feasibility study, the township has demonstrated for itself that a trail is feasible, and is beginning to consider appropriate steps for achieving the creation of the trail. Equally importantly, the township has built a network of partners to participate in the process; partners include the County Planning Office, Guilford Township, Chambersburg Borough, the Greene Township Sewer Authority, Wilson College and private businesses.
