Update 4/25/25 at 11:30AM.
We are writing to request your help responding as a community to the wildfires in Michaux State Forest. The Hammonds Rock and Thompson Hollow fires are still active and evolving. Containing the fires is difficult and high risk weather conditions for fire spread are expected throughout the day. Right now, the focus is on helping first responders, Michaux State Forest staff, and Parks staff.
Please help to lend a hand. Here is what you can do:
- Please share this information with your network. Most critically, advise your communities to avoid the areas of Michaux State Forest north of Rt 30, Kings Gap and Pine Grove State Park, and roads surrounding the area.
- Repost this Facebook to your professional and personal pages
- Share this email/this information with your contacts
- Support our First-Responders: Needs vary based on each Fire Department, but consider support through monetary donations. [UPDATE as of 2PM 4/25. Our firefighters are so grateful for the outpouring of support throughout the community. They are extending their gratitude through the Cumberland County Department of Public Safety. They ask that at this time, to contribute safely and effectively, if you can, consider making a monetary donation [not water or supplies] directly to your local fire departments — this is the most impactful way to support their ongoing efforts and costs. Avoid bringing supplies to the fire zone — keeping roads clear helps our crews respond faster and stay safe. ]
The situation is rapidly evolving. Here are some resources to stay up to date on the fires.
- PA DCNR and Michuax State Forest will continue to provide mapping and reports of fire containment.
- Use this tool by the Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program to monitor air quality and fire locations.
Thank you for your assistance communicating these key messages.
