South Mountain Research Corps (SMRC) is a new initiative that supports student research on land management projects within the South Mountain Landscape. The SMRC is envisioned as a program that will:
– Develop and sustain a responsive, applied research program that empowers the natural and cultural resource conservation efforts
– Build collaborative relationships amongst property owners, land managers, researchers, and students across the South Mountain region
– Build collaborative relationships amongst institutions of higher education across the South Mountain Region
– Provide authentic, high impact, and experiential learning opportunities to college students across the region
The South Mountain Partnership will launch this initiative with an inaugural South Mountain Science Summit on April 11, 2019. The focus of the Science Summit will be connecting the needs of landowners and land managers with the research capacity of the regional research institutions. SMRC will generate practical learning opportunities for college students that will have a collective impact on regional land management and stewardship.
