Keystone Trails Association (KTA), a statewide organization providing, protecting, preserving, and promoting hiking trails and hiking
opportunities in Pennsylvania is holding their annual Spring Hiking Weekend in
Carlisle, April 30—May 1, 2022.
The Spring Hiking Weekend, based at the Bongiorno Conference Center, includes guided hikes, educational programs, and special guest speakers designed to nurture a love of hiking, a spirit of volunteerism, and a passion for environmental steward-ship. This year, a special reception will be held during the event to honor trail and hiking clubs from around the state.
“The Cumberland Valley and surrounding mountains provide an incredible setting for three days packed full of exploration and adventure,” says Brook Lenker,
Executive Director of KTA. “While the weekend is much anticipated by our mem-bership, it is open to the public and introductory memberships are available. For a small additional fee, anyone can enjoy a day or more of trekking on a suite of trails respectively suitable for various skill levels—whether a beginner or seasoned back-packer.”
Hiking is a healthful activity known to reduce stress, promote cardiovascular fitness, and foster wellness. Other studies have demonstrated the positive economic impact it brings to communities proximate to trails. “Trails provide beneficial ‘stimulus’ to people and places,” says Lenker. “They should be accessible to all.” In that spirit, if someone wants to participate in the Hiking Weekend but cost or transportation is an obstacle, they should contact KTA for possible assistance. Registration closes April 15.
