Adams County Conservation District

The Adams County Conservation District, in partnership with Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve, conducted five hands-on public workshops on vernal pools. Vernal pools are prevalent along South Mountain, but a lack of awareness about their ecological importance exists in surrounding communities. The strong development pressure in the South Mountain area also presents a threat, and could cause a detrimental effect on vernal pools if these are left misunderstood. These workshops were designed to target the general public, local schools and municipal officials in the surrounding communities of the South Mountain, with the goals of increasing understanding of vernal pools and promoting the protection of vulnerable species.
